What are these meat pies, & 'mince' that some people are talking about?
I assume it's just because some of us are British and some of us are American, but I don't know what meat pies or mince are, except for maybe Shephard's Pie. I'd love some recipes, thanks~

A meat pie is usually meat and potatoes in gravy baked inside a pie shell. In some other countries mince refers to a ground meat, instead of "ground beef" it would be "mince beef"
Mince meat pie , as far as I have always known is a pie made of apples, raisons, spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, nuts, prunes, and some kind of alcohal. Cointreau or brandy.
You can buy the filling in a jar in the baking section at the grocers. I listed a recipe below, but there are a LOT of them.

Oh in the middle east we do stuff like this all the time. Ugh I have heard of the one they do in Europe with mashed potatoes (eww no thank u for me).
But wow I could tell you like 100 recipes for stuffed things.
Homemade Mincemeat Pie:
1 lb beef stew mix
4 lbs. cooking apples, peeled, cored, and quartered (9 c.)
4 oz. suet
2 1/2 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. water
1 15-oz. package raisins
2 c. dried currants (9 oz.)
1/2 c. diced mixed candied fruits and peels
1 t. finely shredded lemon peel
1 c. orange juice
1 t. finely shredded lemon peel
1/4 c. lemon juice
1 t. salt
1/2 t. ground nutmeg
1/4 t. ground mace
double-crust pie pastry
milk
brandy hard sauce
In large saucepan combine beef stew meat and enough wather to cover. Cover and simmer for two hours or till tender. Drain; cool. Using coarse blade of food grinder, grind cooked beef, apples, and suet. In large kettle combine sugar, 2 2/1 c. water, raisins, currants, mixed candied fruits and peels, orange peel, orange juice, lemon peel, lemon juice, salt, nutmeg, and mace; stir in ground meat-apple mixture. Cover and simmer 45 minutes; stir frequently.
Prepare and roll out pastry. Line a 9in. pie plate with half of the pastry. Trim pastry to edge of pie plate. Fill with 4 c. of meat mixture. (Freeze remaining mincemeat in 4-cup portions.) Cut slits in top crust. Place pastry atop filling. Seal and flute edge. Brush with a little milk. To prevent overbrowning, cover edge of pie with foil. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Remove foil; bake about 15 minutes more or till crust is golden. Cool on rack before serving. Serve with brandy hard sauce. Cover and chill to store.
NOTE: this recipe makes enough mincemeat for 3 pies.
Brandy Hard Sauce:
Thoroughly cream together 2 c. sifted powdered sugar, 1/2 c. softened butter, and 1 t. brandy. Stir in 1 beaten egg yolk; fold in 1 stiff-beaten egg white. Chill.
Most mince meat pies are venison (deer)
Mince as usually referred to here means ground meat, what Americans call ground beef, etc. Meat pies can be a couple of different things. One is like a calzone, the other is more of a family sized pot pie.
As far as I know, cottage pie is just another name for shepards pie.
