Question:

WHat are the cheapest and simplest recipes for a good breakfast ?

Answers:
Toast and jam.

I buy the no name brands.

There is no way you can go wrong with fried eggs and toast. Maybe add some fried mushrooms or something to that.

Fresh juices and fruit tossed in the blender with some flax seed, wheat germ, and anything else you like...

My son's fave is 1c soymilk, 1 banana, 1 tbsp peanut butter, and a half scoop of chocolate slim-fast for vitamins, blend then add the flax and wheat germ and pulse a second or two. Whole golden flax is great in this because the peanut butter cup flavor with the light crunchiness of the flax is a great combo!

just do scrambled eggs and bacon(although bacon can be expensive as well)...add a parsley or thyme leaf to the plate if you're entertaining for guests.....biscuits and jelly are a nice touch as well. Bisquick boxes makes pretty good biscuits and they have directions on the box as well.

Check out Martha Stewart's cookbooks for breakfast directions.

Frozen berries, 1 cup of yogurt, 1 pack of splenda and skim meal to thin out to a shake consistency.

pancakes and bacon or french toast with strawberrys

they say five vegetables a day carrots while marking your eggs this is good cheap and healthy!

Buy steel cut oats at your local food co-op, or grocery store (more expensive). The recipe for cooking the oats, is three parts water to one part oats. So, boil three cups of water, add oats (and a tablespoon of molasses if you tend to like sweet oatmeal). Bring to a boil once more, then cover and TURN OFF the stove. In the morning you will have to reheat your oats, add brown sugar if you like it sweet, or butter and salt and clean up the cook pot, which will need no scrubbing!

scrambled eggs, wheat toast, fresh fruit and some green tea. You can't go wrong with that...it's simple, inexpensive, healthy and no recipe is needed!

Pancakes
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons margarine, melted
1 cup flour
1 tablespoon sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

1. Beat egg until fluffy.
2. Add milk and melted margarine.
3. Add dry ingredients and mix well.
4. Heat a heavy griddle or fry pan which is greased with a little butter on a paper towel.
5. The pan is hot enough when a drop of water breaks into several smaller balls which 'dance' around the pan.
6. Pour a small amount of batter (approx 1/4 cup) into pan and tip to spread out or spread with spoon.
7. When bubbles appear on surface and begin to break, turn over and cook the other side.

Here are some healthy, quick breakfast ideas the whole family will enjoy.

Smoothies - Smoothies are certainly a great way to get a good dose of fruit. Chop up some fresh fruit, throw it in the blender and you have a healthy and delicious breakfast. For a heartier breakfast smoothie add some yogurt or a little high-fiber cereal.

Breakfast Muffins - For breakfast try a savory or fruit muffin. For a healthier muffin use whole wheat flour and instead of sugar mash a ripe banana or a little honey into the mixture. Unless you’re an early riser you probably won’t have enough time to make muffins in the morning. Simply make them ahead and either freeze or keep in an air-tight container for a few days.

Wholesome Eggs - Eggs are very versatile and most kids enjoy them. Try a ham omelet with a little cheese or scrambled eggs with chopped tomatoes. Try a prepare-ahead breakfast casserole for a hearty family breakfast.

Don't Forget the Oatmeal - Making your own oatmeal is much healthier than the flavored instant packets. Cook up according to packet instructions and add a little fruit for extra flavor.

Healthy Breakfast Bar - Make up a batch of healthy breakfast bars the day before and use them for a quick, on-the-go breakfast. Use a low-sugar recipe and include lots of healthy dried fruits.

Fantastic Fruit Salad - Serve a chopped fruit salad with a yogurt dip. Mini muffins are delicious dipped in yogurt too.

Breakfast Burrito - Scramble some eggs and place them in a tortilla with chopped tomatoes, a little grated cheese, ham or other favorite toppings… roll up and enjoy a yummy breakfast burrito.

Spruce up your Toast - Try whole wheat bread and serve with peanut butter and sliced bananas, cream cheese and raisins (sprinkle a little cinnamon on top), or cream cheese and a fruit jam (pure, no-sugar added jam is best).

Pizza for Breakfast - Why not? split a couple of English muffins in half, top with a little pizza sauce, grated cheese and some chopped ham or even eggs. Place under the grill for a few minutes and you have a nutritious breakfast pizza. You can make bagel pizzas too.

Those are just a few healthy breakfast ideas to help keep things interesting. And don't forget parents need breakfast too… we're usually so busy looking after the kids, we end up skipping breakfast ourselves. Here’s a trick we use quite often in our house.

Take a selection of dried fruits, nuts, and seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, etc.) and mix together in a bowl. Then place a handful or two of the mix into individual plastic bags.

So even on the busiest of mornings you just grab a bag on the way out. This makes a great on-the-go healthy breakfast idea.

Here is a recipe I recently found that is great. We often even eat it for a filling dinner in a hurry.

4 pre-made hash brown patties
4 eggs
Grated cheese
Garlic salt
1/2 pound pork sausage
1 T. cooking oil
Flour tortillas

Brown sausage in a large skillet, drain and then set aside. Next, brown the hash brown patties. Then join the sausage and hash brown patties together and add eggs and garlic salt. Continue to brown and stir food for another five minutes. Serve on a warm flour tortilla and sprinkle cheese on top!

Hash Browns!!! Scrambled Eggs!!!! Bacon!!!!

Our favorite cheap & easy breakfast is Egyptian Eggs. You cut a circle out of a slice of bread (I use a biscuit cutter, but a glass would work too) & pop it into a greased non-stick pan. Then break an egg into the "hole" and fry it up. Easy, delicious, filling & cheap beyond belief.

you can't go wrong with eggs..... and you can make a million different recipes with them.
