Question:

How long does it take to boil an egg? how do i know when its done?

Answers:
You place the egg in water, bring to a boil and turn off the heat. It's done in about 15 minutes after soaking in the very hot water.

How do you know? experience.

Remember to take the eggs and plunge them into an ice water bath. This will keep the yolks nice and yellow.

Start eggs in cold water..bring to a slow boil...boil 3 minutes and shut off heat. Let eggs sit in hot water for 10 minutes and peel...works for me every time! Older eggs definitely peel better than fresh!

Place the eggs in a saucepan, cover with cold tap water, bring to a rolling boil, remove from heat and wait ten minutes, shock the eggs in ice water and peel when ready. NOTE: older eggs are easier to peel then fresh eggs

usually about 10-15 min, I always let my egg crack a little then I know it is done

Put the cold eggs in cold water then bring them to a boil. Once the water boils, cover with a lid and turn off the heat. Let the eggs sit in the hot water for 15 minutes. You will have perfectly cooked eggs with no cracked shells.

This is what I do and they turn out perfect every time. I put the eggs in cold water, just enough to cover the eggs. Put on burner on high. When the water comes to a full boil i leave them for on for 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from heat and cover. let sit for 10 minutes. After the 10 minutes are up, I rinse them off in cold water and let sit until they cool off.

After your water starts boiling, for hard boiled go ten minutes. For soft boiled go eight minutes. After 10 minutes, it's done.

12 mins but I ahve been known to go 15-18 cause I dont like runny centers.

The shell will start to show cracks when its done....remember, put it in COLD water and then heat the whole pan up. You dont throw it in HOT water.

i always boil mine for 20 minutes to make sure they are done. the 20 minutes start from the time i put the eggs on the stove, then i plunge them in cold water and they sit in there for about 5 minutes. happy boiling lol

Place eggs in medium saucepan, cover with 1 inch of water, and bring to a boil over high heat.
Remove pan from heat, cover, and let sit for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, fill medium bowl with 1 quart water and 1 tray ice cubes (or equivalent).
Transfer eggs to ice bath with slotted spoon and let sit 5 minutes.
Tap each egg all over against countertop to crack shell, then roll egg gently back and forth several times.
Begin peeling from air-pocket (wider) end.
The shell should come off in spiral strips attached to thin membrane.
Hard-boiled eggs can be refrigerated for several days.
You can double or triple this recipe as long as you use a pot large enough to hold the eggs in a single layer, covered by an inch of water.

I put an egg in cold water. Once you get a rolling boil, set your timer for 15 minutes. It works every time, for me.

8-10 mins usually.to see if its done:take it out of the pot and spin it on your worktop if it spins fast without wobboling then its done but if it wobbles and is spinng slowly then put it back in for a minute or two.

Hard boiled takes 15 min. Put the egg(s) in a pan of water with just enought water to cover the egg and heat on high. Putting it in cold water to start helps to keep the shell from cracking (severe temperature change from putting a cold egg in boiling water causes the cracking). When the water comes to a boil, start the timer and cook for 15 minutes. When the time is up, put the egg(s) in a bowl of cold water (with ice) to stop the cooking process and keep the yolk from turning that ugly green/gray color.

Some where between 3 and 20 min depending
I thought it was cold water with eggs and boil them time 5min and remove
when cool enough to remove by hand chill in cold water.
Never use FRESH laid eggs
Matter of fact leave the eggs covered On the counter overnight.

Put the egg in a small pot fill with water an bring to a boil. After it starts boiling wait 8-12 minutes, let cool in the refrigerator, not the counter, and peel start from the bottom where it has air pocket. Enjoy. And do you know how to tell if you over cooked the egg? The yolk will be slightly green, that's not the color you're looking for, you want it to be nice n' yellow.

when boiling starts wait only ten minutes.
