When is hamburger considered bad?!

Question:

When is hamburger considered bad?

I have a package of hamburger meat that I bought yesterday and froze it, I thawed it out over night and it looks kind of brown with some pink. I am planning on using it in lasagna. Is it still good to use or not? The blood is dark.

Answers:
It is considered bad when you buy it from wal-mart.

The color change doesn't necessarily mean that the meat is bad. If it is bad, it'll have a noticeable odor about it.

since u thawed it it will look like it spoiled. its not. only throw it out when its brown and has been in the fridge for a while

You begin taking a risk if it has been thawed and sitting out of the refrigerator for 4 hrs. Other than that, it will stink if it is bad. I have started rinsing hamburger, and it helps to freshen the meat after it has been sitting in blood. If you cook your burger before you mix it into the lasagna recipe, it will greatly lessen the chance of food poisoning.

The best rule of thumb is: If in doubt, throw it out.

When it has a very sweet smell to it. If the outter layer is brown as opposed to pink, that is usally an indicator to cook it immediately (if it does't smell)....but if the whole thing is brown, I'd just throw it out.

If you just bought it yesterday, it's fine. The brown on the outside is due to it being exposed to air. So long as it is not brown beyond that first layer, it should be OK. Also, smell it. You will instantly know if it's gone bad!

Morph got it right. There's an unmistakable odor that your nose will tell you equates to death if ingested. Once you smell it you will never forget it and be able to judge questionable meat for the rest of your sniffing life.

Good
report your meat shop to the health dept
They just might adding color and more water than required.
Your cooking it for a long time.
Brown the meat drain the extra liquid several times.
a lot of liquid is a sign of extra water.
The meat is not rotten and cooking kills most bad bugs.
Even IF it smells. garlic and onions cover it the herbs >>>

Smell it

It is okay it just turned colors because it was frozen go ahead its okay to eat.
