Question:

Marzipan?? how to make animals and fruit?? pleeease help!?

ok so i am about to make some marzipan fruits and animals. i have the marzipan, food colouring etc etc. I know what i am making but what do you do with them once you have made them? you don't cook them obviously, so do you leave them out overnight to dry or something so they set? if so how? just air dry? do you cover them up?? please help! thanks so much!!

You can either do 'free sculpture' or you can use 'forms' for your animals and fruit ... use the forms if you are trying to make these for an 'event' where everyone can have some ... and after they're formed you should put them onto a piece of 'wax paper' on a 'cookie sheet' and cover them with a 'kitchen towel' that is FLAT (not 'terry') and put them into the fridge for at least 5 hours (overnight is fine, too... but NO MORE than that, and then you put it into a 'can' that you can 'seal tight' with a lid.
BE CAREFUL because you can buy 'marzipan' in several different 'styles' ... some you'll need to add 'sugar' and food coloring to before you can 'mold it' and some you can simply 'mold' as is ... I prefer the stuff that you have to 'mix yourself' because it 'holds it's shape' a little better ... and you won't be 'drying' the marzipan, you'll be letting it 'cool' to get harder ...

My grandmother taught me to make 'marzipan' animals and fruits ... and now I'm a grandma myself!

why do you want to make marzipan? it tastest sooo sick. they put some on my bday cake and it ruined the cake.

hey just use it like it was play dough, just sculpt whatever you want and leave it be you can put it in the fridge or leave it out to dry, but if you leave it out it may crack. if you have any more questions email me.

I believe you refrigerate the finished product until it's time to put them out but doesn't the marzipan package say what to do?

Next time it might be wise and better tasting if you use fondant, it works the same way but has a better taste to it. Just don't refridgerate

Well, I've looked at some marzipan sites, but they don't seem to mention what to do with the finished product (other than eat it :) ). It might be a good idea to wrap the marzipan if you intend to refrigerate it so it doesn't get too dry.

Here's an interesting marzipan recipe that I found... Enjoy!
