I have no butter!!?!
I have no butter!!?
I have just peeled and boiled potatoes to make mashed potatoes, but looked in the fridge and theres no butter.
Is there other things I could use ,that you wouldn't even notice they didn't have butter?
Answers:
Heavy creamwould work, or make cheesy mashed potatoes.
Yes! Parmesan and broth and olive oil. You won't even miss that butter, and you'll get some valuable calcium in the process!
Put a table spoon or a little more of mayonaise in them with a little salt and pepper and maybe a dash of garlic.
ranch dressing is yummy on tators
Sour cream, milk are both good options just be careful with the milk you don't want the potatoes to get too runny
you can use olive oil. it gives it a very buttery taste
Giada De Laurentiis recipe
Parmesan Smashed Potatoes
3 pounds baby red-skinned potatoes, unpeeled, halved
2/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan
1/2 cup olive oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Combine the potatoes in a large pot of water. Cover and bring the water to a boil. Continue boiling until the potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes. Drain, reserving 3/4 cup of the cooking liquid. Return the potatoes to the pot. Coarsely mash the potatoes, adding enough reserved cooking liquid to moisten. Using a large fork, stir in the Parmesan and the oil. Season the potatoes, to taste, with salt and pepper and serve.
I'll be right over with some, "butter" for you! ;o)
a carton of heavy cream, a little salt, whip it for a good long time. you got butter. or add lots of good fresh garlic, salt, and pepper. i think its better that way anyway.
beat heavy cream and a little salt togeter until thicl and separated from oil. just keep beating....it takes a while
use a dash of milk and some salt.
My ex used to mash a raw egg into it.... sounds gross but tastes the same
Try it with vegetable oil.
If you have heavy cream (aka whipping cream) you can use that as well. After all that's what butter is made from anyway. Here's a tip to really make the cream taste even better.....reduce it! Just in case you don't know what that means, it's putting the cream into a saucepan and bringing it to a simmer. This slowly evaporates the excess water in the cream. What you end up with is an extremely flavorful liquid. This is what you want to put into your mashed....TASTY!
I love heating olive oil with rosemary and garlic and drizzling it onto my mashed potatoes. The olive oil infused with herbs and garlic makes me forget all about the cream.
If you happen to have whipping cream (heavy cream) on hand, pour a cup of it in an airtight jar with a half a teaspoon of salt, close it up and shake hard till you see enough lumps form. After all, that's where real butter comes from anyway. drain out the excess liquid, which should be sorta clear, not milky. Use that delicious thick butter. If you don't have the cream at all, try using 1 tbsp of olive oil and 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt. Of course, this will give it a little tang. Adding a little bit of one of those creamy condensed soup, or a little mayo may do the trick, but I couldn't tell you from experience.
olive oil, salt, pepper, maybe some cheese
Yess! use whipping cream and cream cheese, works wonders
you could overwhip heavy cream if you wanted to make sweet butter and use that
