Places that rent chocolate fountains also sell the chocolate for them. If you have your own fountain you should still be able to buy the chocolate from them... you can't use regular chocolate in a fountain, it's gotta be a special kind. I'd use the fountain with the chocolate. Make a fruit platter with strawberries, pineapple, grapes, and orange slices on it to dip in. (no apples, they get brown too quick). Also a sweets platter, with merange cookies, regular cookies, animal crackers, and marshmellos for dipping too. Then in a small crock pot I'd melt caramel for dipping things in too. Maybe some strawberry syrup (like for desserts) in another dish too, but not hot.

I had the chocolate fountain at my wedding with both of those platters I mentioned... and they were a huge hit!
semi sweet, for food bittersweet for baking.
be carefull what you add,,,remember YOU will be cleaning fountain afterwards right?carmel is very sticky hot or cold!
try coffee flavors those pump kind for 'shots' of french vanila or hazelnut.
I like plain old milk chocolate. Try rosemary extract (Mmmm). Otherwise, it's not what you add to it so much as to what you dip into it. Fruit, marshmellow, rice krispie treats, an old shoe. Anything in chocolate tastes good.
Semi sweet.
Bittersweet is for baking
There is a special type of chocolate that you are supposed to use for the fountains. The problem is that you need the chocolate mixture to be smooth enough to make the pretty waterfalls of chocolate. Even with the special chocolate, I have had to add more vegtable oil to get the right consistency. Don't use bittersweet chocolate without sweetening it. You'll be very disapointed.
I like the idea of using the coffee or Italian soda flavorings (like the Torani brand). But I have found the best way to get more flavors is to get lots of fun stuff to dip into the chocolate.
marshmallows
bananas
strawberries
grapes
candy bar (like 3 Musketeers or pick your favorite)
shortbread cookies
