I need creative (and real!) hot dog topping ideas?!

Question:

I need creative (and real!) hot dog topping ideas?

going to a BBQ on Sunday...hostess is asking for ideas for unique hot dog toppings. Other than the basics like mustard, ketchup, kraut, relish, onions, etc.

Answers:
There are two ideas I have:

This will sound gross, but it is excellent - mayo with a bit of lemon juice, pickle juice, mango and garlic.

Also try diced fruit for a tropical and healthy alternative.

You can also try your favorite type of cheese on the bun, sort of like a cheeseburger.

Caramelized onions, olive oil and garlic (on the bun), mango and pineapple chutney are all also good ideas.

why not chili dogs or cheese dogs?

how about cheese, salsa, bbq sauce

Check out this website

fries and a drizzle of white or milk chocolate on the hot dog really good

Try salsa any type will do, it is great on a lot of things.

what about mango chutney? it is sweet and designed for salty foods...also, salsa, veggie chili, etc.

i LOVE garlic mayo on anything- and lots of people love mayo + ketchup on burgers....mix crushed garlic, parsley, and garlic salt with mayo (maybe a dash of lemon juice to neutralize)..can be heated a little or kept cold.

make a spoonful and see if you like it- but i bet it's killer with hot dogs and brats...

I like mexican salsa with corn relish, guacamole and nacho cheese, or sauteed mushrooms with thyme and asiago cheese, or green olive relish with cream cheese and chilli sauce.

Try putting some maple syrup on them... it really makes then taste great... a little sweet and sticky !!!

I tend to like sweet and spicy, so try sloppy joe, onions & provolone cheese. also mango a/o pinapple chutney is great.
You could also try carameled onions, spicy mustard and a dash od paprika.

Chili
Saurkraut
Shredded cheeses
Salsa
hot peppers

An answer to the question "What is a Lincoln Log sandwich" I just read said this~

It is hot dogs split open in the middle with cream cheese in them and on a slice of white bread. The name itself appears to be "made up".

But they are also know as Seattle Cream Cheese Dogs. Supposedly putting cream cheese on a hot dog is done often in Seattle.

coleslaw. I like mine with pineapple.

Is this bbq for adults only? Or, will the kids be there? I can make some suggestions for both.

I love my hot dogs with lots of fried onion and diced bacon. Cheese and BBQ sauce is yummy to.

Be as creative as you want. But be aware that most people will just stick to what they are used to eating. I wouldn't bother. But since you asked, Saute some onions in ketchup, water and paprika. Serve hot, yum!

* 2 pounds ground beef
* 1/2 cup onion, chopped
* 1 clove garlic, crushed
* 2 teaspoons chili powder
* 1 teaspoon paprika
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 teaspoon pepper
* 1/2 teaspoon cayenne

PREPARATION:
Brown ground beef in a large pot. Add onions and cook until the onions turn translucent. Add remaining ingredients, stir and simmer on low for several hours. You can prepare this in a slow cooker and let it all day.Stir occasionally. The texture of the chili should be fairly smooth and even to put on hot dogs.

Guacamole!!! Instead of a bun use a flour tortilla. Instead of chili use refried beans. Instead of ketchup use salsa. Top with Guac and you have a unique spin on the traditional hot dog. Also very good--I make them!!!
