Is there a way to minimize bacon grease flying everywhere when cooking it?
I have a black stove and I LOVE bacon, I cook a lot of it so I was wondering if anyone had any tips to keep grease from going everywhere when cooking. Thanks!
Answers:
Lower the heat and get yourself a grease guard. It kinda looks like a strainer with a handle and it will keep the grease from splattering so much.
Put a top on it for a while
Yep. Bake it in the oven. Does not curl up, gets crispy and no mess!
bake it in the oven on 325 for bout 10 - 15 min. no splatter, and oh so tastey and crispy.
Try to use bacon with less fat. Low heat - cover with lid. You can also microwave with layers of paper towels in between each set.
First....turn down the heat! The hotter, the more it will splatter.
There are "screen" type covers that you can purchase to help keep the splatters to a minimum, too. They are not expensive.
If you're using a frying pan they have covers that have a tight metal weave/mesh at local kitchen stores possibly even Wal-Mart that you lay on top of the pan to keep it from splattering everywhere but to keep it from popping is impossible to due the water thats part of the bacon. .
Well if you have a microwave you can always wave it- uase a plate , paper towels- about 2 above and under your bacon slices. cook on hi 1 min, then check. continue until it's the way you like them, Also they have pan screens on the cooking utensil aisle at Wal-mart- they go over the top of the skillet.
Slighty lower cooking temp, else cover the pan.
get a spatter shield
in the mean time cover it-and drain the greese so it will brown
in your cooking be careful too much pork can be dangerous=enjoy and I'm living in the joy I never found anywhere else=John 3 repented of sin, and born again asking Jesus to my heart in, to become my best friend-prayin for you too
Yes you can buy a deflector. It looks like a round, flat screen with a handle. But, I suggest baking or broiling it. My uncle ran a yacht club and he would lay the bacon out on paper lined sheetpans and lightly dust it with flour before baking in the oven.
Lightly dust the bacon before frying. It won't splatter and will come out nice and crispy
I keep reading people suggesting you use a splatter guard, I wouldn't, it creates steam, which will cause more splatter, because after the first few seconds it becomes clogged with oil, so discard that idea.
Use med high heat, make sure your bacon sizzles when you add it to the pan - add 2 drops of vinegar to the pan with the bacon - you will not taste it at all, and you will have few splatters, if any at all - I learned this trick working in a fine french cafe' - and all french folks will tell you to do this when you fry panchetta, this will also keep your bacon softer, but let the fat crisp.
You can use plain white vinegar for no flavor, or add a nice redwine or balsamic for a little flavor.
Two ideas:
1) Use a spatter guard over the top
2) Microwave it instead with a paper towel over it. I don't ever cook bacon on the stove anymore.
get a splatter guard - loks like a flat strainer with a handle. They come in different sizes. check in kitchen utensils aisle @ wal-mart, target, etc.
You do do it in a skillet or on a griddle, don't ya? One trick is to lower the cooking heat and another is to use a bacon press. You can also buy a splatter screen where you buy your cooking utensils. It rests on top of the skillet like a lid and has a handle so you can move it without grabbing hot metal. You'll need to wash it off in hot soapy water after you're done using it. Just don't wash off your cast iron skillet in soapy water!
cook it at a little lower temp. Also use a splatter screen. I think I seen them at the dollar store
