I am going to a cook out not having a cook out...I appreciated all these suggestions (may use at my house) but I am going to his bosses house. So I cannot just throw things on the grill. Any suggestions of carry-in items?

i am not sure who will be making what, but these burgers go over really well.
Bacon Wrapped Hamburgers
INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
1 small onion, chopped
1 egg
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 pound ground beef
6 slices bacon
6 hamburger buns, split
DIRECTIONS
Preheat a grill for high heat.
In a large bowl, mix together the Cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, onion, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Crumble in the ground beef, and mix together by hand. Form into 6 patties, and wrap a slice of bacon around each one. Secure bacon with toothpicks.
Place patties on the grill, and cook for 5 minutes per side, or until well done. Remove toothpicks before serving on hamburger buns.
Makes 6, but can be doubled.

sorry i misunderstood, here is a lovely dessert you could take.

Strawberry Angel Food Dessert
INGREDIENTS
1 (10 inch) angel food cake
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 quart fresh strawberries, sliced
1 (18 ounce) jar strawberry glaze
DIRECTIONS
Crumble the cake into a 9x13 inch dish.
In a medium bowl, cream cream cheese and sugar until light and fluffy. Fold in whipped topping. Mash the cake down with your hands and spread the cream cheese mixture over the cake.
In a bowl, combine strawberries and glaze until strawberries are evenly coated. Spread over cream cheese layer. Chill until serving.

The good old watermelon basket fruit salad. Cut a whole watermelon in ziz=zags, making the top a basket handle. Then scoop out the watermelon, add whatever fruits you like (blueberries look especially nice with the watermelon) always goes over big.

baked beans- with a twist.
2 cooked cans bush's baked beans
1 pound cooked crumbled ground beef
1/2 each diced green and red peppers
diced onion- however much you want
mix all together and leave on low heat.

Take a nice Honey Baked Spiral Ham and see below for the recipe of a great potatoes and cheese dish.

Side dish:
Potatoes and Cheese Casserole...Boil 6 large potatoes and cut into chunks. In a bowl mix a cup of mayonaise, 8oz of shredded cheddar cheese, 8 oz of chopped bacon (or, I use Hormel Bacon Bits) salt, pepper, and 1/2 cup of sliced green olives. Layer potatoes on bottom of baking dish and spread cheese mixture over top. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

I love taking spagetti salad when I need to impress. Cook some spaghetti and drain, rinse with cold water. To the cold pasta add your choice of cucumber chunks, bell pepper, zuchinni, purple onion, grape tomatoes, olives, anything you like really. Toss this all with Italian dressing, enough to coat. The dressing absorbs so you may want to add a little more right before serving. Its also really good with small cheese cubes and throw on some parmesan cheese and cracked black peper right before serving.

Well I'm not sure if your husband will like this but it's always delicious, grilled zucchini, yummy.

Try serving basic BBQ staples like chicken, kabobs, potato salad... but add a nice gourmet twist to it. For example, put pineapple chunks on your kabobs (grilled pineapple is so good), or add some prosciutto or bacon to your potato salad.

Just be creative. Hope this helps =)

Paul Dean from the Food Network has an awesome recipe for Pineapple Baked Beans. I have left great impressions many of times. Very yummy, smells awesome and different. Never had any leftovers!

4 (16-ounce) cans baked beans
1 (20-ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
1 cup molasses
1 cup BBQ sauce
2 tablespoon yellow or brown mustard
5 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
1 (6-ounce) can french-fried onions, crushed
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In large bowl, mix together beans, pineapple, molasses, BBQ sauce, mustard, bacon, and a third of the onions. Add some salt and pepper, to taste. Pour beans in 9 by 13-inch casserole dish and sprinkle remaining crushed onions and bacon on top. Cook in oven for 1 hour or until beans brown and bubble. Serve warm.

pineapple upside cake always looks nice. you could garnish it with fresh raspberries and blackberries. bring fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream to serve with it. another idea is crab stuffed mushrooms. they can be made ahead of time and just heated up in the oven or on the grill when you get there. you could also make a tray with different pickles, olives, and deviled eggs. when you make the eggs use a pastry bag to fill them. you can garnish some of them with smoked salmon or caviar. if you are going to make something you've never made before i would suggest trying the recipe out at home first to make sure it comes out okay. good luck.

The lady with the Spaghetti Salad Recipe was on the money btu to that I also add something you find in the spice isle called Salad Supreme, its adds a really nice kick to the salad.
