How long can a stick of butter be left out at room temperature?!

Question:

How long can a stick of butter be left out at room temperature?

Answers:
Butter will not spoil unless it is contaminated with bacteria for 10-12 days at room temperature. Keep it in a covered container and make sure that when you use the butter you don't leave behind food stuck in it.

1 hour at the most.

can last for about a week in a covered container out of direct sunlight in a coolish room

you can leave it out forever, but it would probably melt soon unless you keep that room really cold.

We use a "butter bell" you can put a whole stick of butter in it. Once it is softened. Then you flip it upside down and with a little water at the bottom of the container. This way air can not get to the butter. They work great! I believe you can get them at any homes goods store

I always leave mine out. It's usually a few weeks before I use up the stick and put another out in the butter container. But I have had it out for longer before. I like my butter to be room temperature. As long as it doesn't smell really bad or have mold on it it will be fine.

Note: this is only for real butter. Margarine has to be put away and will spoil or melt at room temperature.

Butter is soften at 21 degrees(room temp). IF your room get's higher than that it will melt. So if it's close to that in your house put it the fridge otherwise, it's good for 2-3 weeks.
