How do you get a charcoal grill going?
Answers:
A. pile it into a pyramid and pour some lighter fluid on it, let it soak in for about 5 minutes then light her up
B. Buy a chimney starter, which holds the charcoal together in a cylinder shape while u light some newspaper or something under it. Thus freeing you from needing lighter fluid.
lighter fluid
It's best to have a chimney starter. You can pick this up anywhere that sells grilling accessories. Put a few pieces of newspaper in the bottom (not too much or the fire won't spread), then throw in 4-5 Matchlite Coals (the kind that are pre-soaked in lighter fluid); these will catch quicker & help the rest of the coals light. Then fill the rest of the chimney up with regular carcoal. Then light the paper through the holes in the bottom of the chimney & there you go.
You don't want to douse the whole thing with lighter fluid b/c your food will taste like it if you do.
you put the charcol in
squirt some lighter fluid on it
wait a few minutes for the fluid to absorb
strike a match and throw it in
* be carefull not to burn yourself*
Hope this helps & have a good weekend :)
There are several methods, you can use one of those charcoal starters that just uses news paper and no lighter fluid (It is what I use), you can use Pre-soaked charcoal, or lighter fluid. Try and stack it in a mound so the heat really builds up and then once the coals are ready use a tool to spread them out while still trying to maintain a larger mound in the middle.
I use a charcoal chinmey and newspaper. In my opinion it is far superior to lighter fluid (no fumes and altered flavor) and is much cheaper in the long run since a decent chimney costs about as much as about 2 bottles of lighter fluid and lasts for years.
I always use firelighters, lighting blocks. Easy to use, just place a layer of Charcoal in the BBQ, spread out a few blocks on them Light them and place more charcoal on top of the blocks and leave for about 15 mins. Always works with me.
I burn over 2,500 pounds of charcoal briquettes every year for teaching Dutch oven classes and bbq. I use a Weber brand charcoal chimney. The cone shaped grate in the bottom is very effective in conducting heat and flame to the briquettes. Since I teach so often and use only briquettes or natural charcoal at home I purchased a single burner propane burner (turkey fryer burner works awesome. Fill the chimney whith the amount of briquettes you need then place it over the burner. Carefully light the stove and let the flame burn for about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove the chimney and place into the bbq. Wait to dump out the coals until the flames are coming out of the top and the corners of the top briquettes are turning grey. Then you can pour out the briquettes onto the charcoal grate and start cooking right away! It takes less than 15 minutes. If you dont have a burner then I suggest using 2 to 3 pieces of crumpled news paper under the chimney. I'll put a little charcoal lighter fluid on the paper to get things good and hot. You can also use a fire starter or small section of those presto fire logs instead of news paper. But I like the burner method the best.(less mess)
