Aluminum core pots and pans?
Do you think that stainless steel cookware with an aluminum core is safe? I am concerned about the links between aluminum and Alzheimers disease.
Also, if anyone has heard of any health risks to using non-stick varieties of pans? I havent, but I would be curious to know if anyone else has.
Answers: Aluminum cores are fine. They are wrapped in stainless (make sure), or stacked inside stainless steel.
Aluminum is one of the most common elements in the world. We're exposed to it in more ways that you can count. Links to alzheimers are inconclusive.
From what I understand, non-stick skillets are ok as long as you don't overheat them and cause the material to burn (you can smell the fumes when overheated). I use mine with medium heat, like for omelettes or grilled cheese sandwiches, but never for searing a steak. Source(s):

Aluminum is a heavy metal that ends up in your soft, ductless glands like your thyroid, etc. It is definitely something to avoid, but does not affect brain tissue. Mercury vapor from Amalgam fillings gives off enough mercury in the form of mercury vapor, from brushing your teeth, drinking hot liquids, etc. It goes to your liver where it is converted to mercuric ions that to to your brain and kill the Tubulon Matrix that surrounds nerve dendrites creating the condition associated with Alzheimer's disease. But of course, dentists hide behind the CDC and other organizations that claim it's still safe, but at the same time, tell us that mercury is deadly poison and avoid eating fish. Amazing. Who are these people anyway and where do they live? They also tell you to get flu shots that are loaded with mercury in the form of a preservative. Maybe these are the same people setting up Alzheimer's homes everywhere now.
The biggest contributor to heavy metal body contamination of Aluminum is SOY products. Soybeans are loaded with Aluminum because the bean loves to absorb it from the soil and from the processing equipment that is aluminum. Maybe this is why drug companies put warnings on hypothyroid medications like Synthroid, Levoxine, etc. to not eat any soy products. It slows the thyroid way down and counter acts the action of the Synthroid.
If you are concerned about Aluminum problems, definitely avoid all soy products. You can eat fermented soy like the Japanese do because the fermentation process takes most of the Aluminum out.
In regard to the non-stick products. Teflon is used and is a very high heat resistant substance. At temperatures about 660 degrees F, Teflon breaks down. The out gassing can be toxic and even lethal if enough is breathed in. If the Teflon surface is flaking off, this is an indication that the temperatures have been raised to dangerous levels causing this or someone has used a metal spatula that has abraded it off.
The Dupont company makes Teflon and of course, tell you it's perfectly safe. They claim the temperatures do not get above the 660 degrees when cooking. Hmmmm. Your call.
I used to manufacture products with Teflon extrusions and we were required by Dupont and local authorities to have very special scrubbing devices and vacuums to get rid of the fumes. It was also very corrosive to all the metals and we had to use very exotic metal tools.
I would not buy Teflon coated cookware. There are many alternatives that are much better. Using aluminum core pans should offer no heath risk. The cooking surface it stainless steel and the aluminum dose not come in contact with the food. Personally I would get ones with a copper core they are much better.
Non-stick pans can give off a poisons gas if heated to high. The amounts of the gas aren't deadly to people but can cause problems for people with respiratory problems. It can also kill small bird if you have any living in the house.
