Beer can chicken....and dr pepper?!

Question:

Beer can chicken....and dr pepper?

i had some beer can chicken today and it tasted so succulent. It was made in the oven using a special pan (with a build in can in the middle). The directions on the package said that you could use beer, juice, wine, or dr Pepper. I found this very odd. Why Dr. Pepper? thanks.

Answers: Dr Pepper has like 26 different flavors in it and there is sugar in it and all that combined with the fat from the chicken and the heat from the grill will make it all mix together for quite a succulent chicken grill. I think that is a wonderful idea! Its very popular check it!

Dr. Pepper Chicken
6 small chicken thighs
3/4 cup apple jelly
3/4 teaspoon dry mustard
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 can Dr. Pepper or Cherry Coke, divided

Remove skin from chicken, rinse and pat dry. Place into skillet and set aside.

In a medium bowl, mix jelly, mustard, salt and pepper until well blended. Slowly add 1 cup of soda and mix well. Add this mixture to the chicken. Bring chicken to a boil. Once this has reached its point, turn down and cook for 10 minutes over medium high heat. After the time is up, baste chicken again and cook, covered, for 15 minutes. If sauce thickens, add soda until of desired consistency. Hmmm that is odd. Maybe it's similar to how teriyaki sauce (sweet stuff) is so good on chicken? The person who said it owns stock in Dr. Pepper. The Dr. Pepper would be a very good compliment to Chicken cooked the same way as beer can chicken. We do Beer Can on the barbecue. You don't really need a special pan, just open a can of beer, Dr. Pepper, 7-Up, or Sprite, cut an extra opening in the lid with a old fashioned beer opener, pour/drink about 1/4 of the drink, then stand your bird upright on the can and set it on the barbecue and cook as you would a whole chicken. I can't imagine why the manufacturer would recommend Dr. Pepper. We've used Dr. Pepper as well as Coke, Root Beer and many varieties of beer. I have never tasted a difference in the chicken itself. Of course that could be because I use a highly seasoned rub which I also add to the liquid. you can use any type of liquid it does not have to be beer or dr pepper and type will work it steams from the inside out
