What do I do with Hoisin sauce?!

Question:

What do I do with Hoisin sauce?

Found some on sale and now I don't know what to do with it. What does it taste like? Not much of an Asian cook, but I love to cook, so I'm willing to try anything.

Answers: It's great with Sechewan stirfry. I used to use it all the time with steak, onions, carrots, and green peppers. I'd add baby corn to the mix right before taking it off and serving it over rice. Look up Sechewan, Szechuan, or Sezchuan (it's spelled many different ways) stirfry recipes and see what you come up with! It's spicy and yummy!

Here's one that is similar to the way I used to make it when I had time!:
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/szechuan-be... Crispy duck with pancakes and hoisin sauce, I have had this in a restaurant and it is fantastic, never made it at home though. good luck If you like to cook, you will enjoy cooking with Asian spices. To start cooking with Hoisin sauce try useing it like a bar-b-que sauce when you are grilling chicken or steak. Once you have become familiar with the taste, you will begin adding it to other marinates and sauces.

Another Asian spice that is a must have is Asian Chilli Sauce. Do not buy the Sweet version as it does not have any "bite" to it. Great in marinates for grilling or stir-frys. Taste a small amount out of the bottle, the flavor is amazing. You will find many other uses for it.

Another Asian spice that is a must have is Oyster Sauce. Make a marinate out of Oyster Sauce and chopped garlic. Marinate chicken strips or small pieces of flank steak (cut across the grain)for at least an hour before cooking your stir-fry.

If you do not have a wok, this is also a must for stir-frys. DO NOT buy an expensive wok (definately not electric) a steel wok with a wooden handle is fine. Normally costs under $12. You need to "season" the wok before you start to use it.

When stir-frying only use a small amount of peanut oil. It is a high temperature oil and stir-frys are best when cooked at high heat.

Fresh stir-fried vegatables (always add large pieces of sliced onions) and a little chicken or steak is healthy and quick.

With your wok you can make your own chinese fried rice. Secret to great fried rice is to make the rice a day ahead of time and regridgerate overnight. If you cook the rice (always use long-grain) and use it the same day, it will be sticky.

Time for dinner.

Good luck, I had the perfect recipe for stir-fried beef with Oyster sauce. Hoisin sauce is Oyster sauce and is quite salty and is used by the chinese as a dipping sauce for pork and chicken and mostly in stir-fry sauces. I have sent a link that will help with suggestion and recipes.
