What makes the best omlette?!
What makes the best omlette?
I want to try something different for breakfast tomorrow, what can i add to the omlette??? Thanks
Answers: Don't laugh, but CHILI. Don't knock it til you try it. I was breakfast cook in a local restaurant a few years back, and we used to experiment with the omelets. Just out of pure curiosity one day, we tried it, and it was DELICIOUS! Kinda like a taco, made with eggs. You can top the chili with cheese and tomatoes. It is good, I promise! Bacon, sausage, cheese
uhh be creative XD red and green peppers, onions, various cheeses, bacon, ham, turkey, etc. To me, the most important ingredient is the cheese. any kind...as long as it get all melty and good! 1> Onions and mushrooms w/ some cheese
2> Broccoli, onions cheese
3> spinach, ham, cheese . http://frenchfood.about.com/library/bl_h...

Kielbasa. I liked kielbasa as a dinner/lunch item and tried it in the omelet. It was a great, different from the normal breakfast type foods.
Good luck on the quest! cut up and roasted onion, green pepper, and a lot of cheese.
Also some tomatoes. Add anything you like, I've even heard of banana omelettes, doesn't sound good to me, but it just proves anything goes with eggs
EGGPLANT AND TOMATO OMELETTES
1 med. eggplant
Salt
1 med. onion, finely chopped
3 med. tomatoes, peeled, chopped
2 tbsp. tomato paste
1/8 tsp. seasoned pepper
1/4 c. olive oil or salad oil
1 clove garlic, minced or pressed
1/4 c. finely chopped parsley
1/2 tsp. Italian herbs
OMELETTES:
8 eggs
Ground nutmeg
3 tbsp. water
4 tbsp. butter
Salt
1/2 c. shredded Parmesan cheese
Cut unpeeled eggplant in 1/2" cubes. Spread on paper towels, sprinkle with salt. Let stand 20 minutes. Blot surface. Brown eggplant in heated oil in frying pan. Mix in onion; cook until soft. Add garlic, tomatoes, parsley, tomato paste, herbs and pepper. Cover, reduce heat. Simmer until eggplant is tender. Uncover, cook until most of liquid is gone. Salt to taste.
For each omelette, beat 2 eggs at a time, with 2 teaspoons water, dash of salt and dash nutmeg. Heat 1 tablespoon butter in omelette pan over medium heat until foamy. Pour in egg mixture. As soon as edges begin to set, slide spatula under, lifting and tilting pan so liquid runs underneath. Continue until no liquid remains, but top is moist. Spoon 1/2 cup sauce onto omelette; sprinkle with 2 tablespoons cheese. Loosen omelette, slide onto warm plate, folding into thirds. Spoon sauce over. Makes 4 omelettes. LOVE i make mine with shredded cheddar cheese, chopped onions, chopped green peppers, fresh tomatoes, sliced mushrooms, smoked bacon, and smoked ham.
this omelet is the BOMB!!! i promise you will enjoy it. mozzerella cheese & black olives smoked salmon, cream cheese & slivered red onion or fresh chives.
OR
tomato, spinach, bacon & cheese. (cheddar or american) I usually keep it simple (western, denver, or sausage and onion). Cheese is a very personal choice. I don't care for it, but my kids love it.
Most important thing is that you saute your mix in's well before adding eggs. Nothing worse than crunchy peppers in an omelet.
The other major decision is do you mix your ingredients into the eggs, or do you fill your omelet. I'm a mix in guy. I saute my ingredients, and then add the eggs. When the top is close to being set, I roll the omelet into its classic shape. add some vegetable and meat, and lots of cheese.. any type you'd like HI Three eggs, cheese and a pretty girl to look at Omelette.
1 Egg.
1T Milk.
1t butter.
Grated Cheese.
Fresh Garlic Chives
(I)
Whisk together the egg and milk. Melt butter in a small fry pan and add the egg mixture, swirling to cover the pan.
(II)
When the omelette is almost set sprinkle on the filling.
Fold in half and cook for a further 1 minute.
Slide out onto plate. I used to make this pseudo-omlette at one restaurant. It sold like crazy, but it takes a little work.
Saute together spinach, onions, and roast beef from the night before. Crack 3 whole eggs over the ingredients, lightly mix (not fully scramble) and let it cook like an omlette. Flip it over, sprinkle cheese in the middle if you want, and fold. We used to top it with Hollandaise or Bearnaise sauce, but you dont have to. The not-completely mixed eggs changed the texture of the omlette, but was no harder to make. Just make sure you have a good pan and/or a decent amount of oil/butter. Otherwise, it could get messy. Love omelets! Be sure to beat the eggs really well with 1/2 tsp water. For the filling, my favorite is cooked spinach, onion and feta cheese. I then put salsa on the side. Other combos are:
- potatoe, sausage or bacon, cheddar cheese
- virginia ham, swiss, american or provolone cheese
- broccoli, mozzarella, sliced tomatoe
- asparagus, parmesan cheese
Be creative and mix them up! We always use left overs from the weeknight meals. Best are taco and one with a combination of bacon, cream cheese and avocado (not necessarily the heart healthiest though).
