My husband comes back from Iraq soon...i think i forgot how to cook..its been a long time(national guard) since June 19th..i only cooked on r&r and that was it...how can i get back into the cooking again prior to him coming home? any ideas...like maybe making a list or simple recipes that would work?

thanks good suggestions! Forget the food, MRE's aren't that bad! Certainly not like the C-Rats I ate@!
What the man needs is to get laid. Unceasingly. Concentrate on that and the rest falls into place... dinners out (something as simple as McD's can bring great memories) or a crock pot (easy, great meals, cooking away as he's getting laid ;-), etc.
Hopefully, you know your man well enough to know what he likes. I'm a world traveler and x-military. One thing I always miss is an American breakfast (pancakes, sausage, hash browns, etc.). Just a suggestion.
Put a smile on his face, don't worry so much about the kitchen. He's a warrior.
God bless him and thanks for his service! start small, make something like hamburger helper, or mac and cheese, and maybe by the time he gets back you will be able to cook something home-made! go to allrecipes.com they have a variety of dishes and menus June 19th was only a couple weeks ago :/ Hey sweet wife of some good man no need to learn he has already learned how to cook n bake. If u feel necessary just take him t restaurants because he has not seen good restaurant since long because i have heard that almost all are destroyed. I would just make easy stuff and be HAPPY that he is home. I am sure he wouldn't mind. I bet he would eat anything you cooked just being glad that he is home..so don't over stress about it. Otherwise make some good homemade food that you can freeze and reheat. Just enjoy your time. I looked for some really easy recipes, that are filling but also look very homemade, so nothing like grilled cheese sandwiches or hamburger helper. And I didn't know what kind of recipes you needed, so I added some for different times of the day, based on how easy they were, as if I could make them.
Breakfast: Eggs are the easiest, and most filling. Here's a way to make scrambled eggs, which is basically fool proof. http://www.mrbreakfast.com/article.asp?a...
Serve your scrambled eggs with a side of toast, maybe some fruit, and coffee.
Other breakfast alternatives include pancakes. Buy the Aunt Jemima box kind, and all you need to add are the eggs, butter, and vegetable oil like it says to on the box. They are REALLY good.
Lunch: I found these recipes, which look easy to follow, but also offer some variety...

If you couldn't tell, I am getting a lot of my recipes from this website: http://www.cdkitchen.com/
Another good site I found is this one: http://www.bhg.com/home/easy-recipes.htm...
Also, if you are not sure about what some cooking terms mean, here's a good website to try: http://www.frugalcooking.com/encyclopedi...
Good luck! And, no matter how much you worry about it, he'll love whatever you make for him. : ) My husband's gone, too. (since July 06). He can't wait to come home to a good steak. Here's my recipe:
Ribeye steaks (about an inch thick)
sprinkle both sides with garlic powder, onion powder and Lawry's. Drizzle on soy sauce and Teriyaki sauce and rub in on both sides. Grill on high for 7 minutes on each side, brushing with sauce left over in the pan. Only flip the steaks once though to keep them juicy.
Don't do the Hamburger Helper. He'd probably rather have fresh hamburgers grilled. They get enough processed stuff over there.
But he probably will crave his favorite restaurants...so take advantage of that. Ok quick and easy.
1 package of chicken pieces with the skin still on. Put 2-3 cloves of garlic in the food processer with a stick of butter or margarine....your choice, then blend together. Now it gets messy....put that mixture under the skin of the chicken pieces, whatever is left over smear on top. Stick in the oven on 350 covered 30-40 min or until the juice is clear...DONT over cook. Serve with veggies and fresh deli bread.
You may be surprised......he may want a dish that you make that is one of his favorites. :) Go shopping!. When you see all the lovely food in your pantry, you'll get inspired. You didn't forget how to cook , just get back on the horse. Thanks to you and hubby for your service. Prayers for his safe return.
