A question for Bakers? I can never get my frosting true red, what can I use?
I buy the wilton food coloring tubs, I have Christmas Red, but it never seems to get red enough even if I use a lot.
Answers: Buy and use the powdered food colorings. They are more expensive and do require more mixing but have richer colors when you need them. Or better yet buy a airbrush and airbrush the red right on the cake. you'll get a bright red for sure and with some practice you can do some really cool decorating affects. CHILE es el mejor!!!!1 by the red frosting from the store for like cakes and stuff that they Try adding a couple drops of blue, not much, see it that makes it more red. stir in fresh beet or cherry, or blackberry juice to HALF of the frosting you would normally color with the wilton. This may require some experimentation, to get a dark color, depending on the juice you are using. Add lots of the wilton in a separate bowl to the other half of the frosting. Now you have two tones of frosting to play with. Mixing the juice-stained frosting to the winton frosting will give you darker tones. I think red is a difficult color to work with, I've never saw any that I really like. You might be using too much "red." ahhh, this one is pretty simple AND HEALTHY ... use beet POWDER. Beet Powder gives a beautiful color and it really is nutritious ...
I use beet powder also when I made my goat milk soaps if I want them red ... and I use other herbs to make them different colors as well.
A LITTLE BEET POWDER GOES A LONG WAY THOUGH - so .. .use with care so you don't get too dark a red if that is not what you wanted.
Peace;
Aintmyfault Hi kitkat,
Use the Wilton red & add red food coloring until you get the red you want. Easiest one I know. Good luck experimenting is always a good thing to do with any kinda food. Have a good night. :0)
P.S. I made candy cane cookies that LQQKed like real candy canes. When it called for liquid in the ingredients I used less liquid but used the food coloring to make it a cup. You can buy it premade and precolored from most bakeries if it's that important to get a deeper red color.
