I've soaked my beans overnight and they are still tough....?

I've already added more water, but what can I do to speed up this process? My baked beans take 8 hours, and I'm running out of time! Thanks!!!!!!

Whoops, I mean except... I assume you have them on the heat already... Depending on the type of beans they are, having soaked them overnight, they will soften suddenly.

Hard to softish in the space of 10 or 15 minutes. Any recipe that requires 8 hours of cooking with all of the good stuff in a baked bean recipe will guarantee nice, soft delicious beans.

Just simmer for now, or keep them in at least a 325 degree oven.

Best wishes! beans? You have to boil them hun You should soak them for more or less 24 hours. And then putting them in a pressure cooker would get them softer quicker. Don't know if anything else can be done, especially on short notice. you soak beans overnight, but you then have to boil them till tender, around 20 minutes will do, good luck i kno ppl add a tsp of baking powder.u can try that but other than just soak it overnight, get up next morning and pressure cook it.that what my fam does and we have cooked and tasty beans
dont kno y u soaking baked beans tho.dont they sell that in the tin? boil them drain the water and boil them again. DO NOT BOIL THEM WITH SALT or they will never get tender Please don't eat uncooked beans as I think they contain an enzyme which can really upset your stomach. If you have a packet of beans the cooking instructions should be there. There are loads of recipes for using beans so try the net. I love them. i think they are too old.thast is wha they will not cook. I don't know if you have them in warm water already, but keep it lukewarm and put a lid on it so that no heat escapes....

*shrugs* All I can say... Dried beans always need to be cooked at high temperatures until quite soft in order to disable a nasty chemical that will make you sick (Phytohaemagglutinin). If you try to boil them until soft without soaking them first, it can take several hours of boiling to get them soft. That's why most people soak them first.

There are 2 ways of soaking. The first is to put them in a pot, cover them with about 3-4 times as much water as beans, and let them sit overnight. Then in the morning, boil for an hour or so, and they will get soft. Or, if you forget to get them soaking overnight, or make a sudden decision to cook beans, put them in the pot with 3-4 times as much water as beans, and get the pot (covered) to boiling, then turn the heat off. Let the pot sit with the hot water, covered, for several hours. Then boil the beans, and they will take only about an hour to cook.

For baked beans, even though they will be baked at a high temperature, you still need to start with soft beans, and that means boiling after soaking. Since your beans have already soaked for 8 hours, probably an hour of boiling should make them soft. Windycityson is right. I have cooked dry beans most of my life. Don't add salt until the end or they will stay hard. One other thing, I heat them first then throw out the water and then soak them. If you soak them too long without doing this, they will sprout. Over night is enough. Then cook them on medium or medium/low until they get soft. They will be delicious.
