Answers: In respect to the mom-to-be's diet, there are a few types of food that you should not serve during the baby shower. Here is a guideline:
1. Soft cheeses such as Brie, Camembert, and blue veined cheeses. These cheeses are less acidic than harder cheeses, which means they hold more moisture. This creates the perfect environment for the growth of bacteria. Listeria is the concern here and can put the unborn child at risk. So, please avoid this type of cheese.
2. Pregnant women should avoid eating more than 12 oz. of fish each week. Mercury levels in some fish are higher than others. Since larger fish eat smaller fish, the mercury levels in those smaller fish can add to the mercury already in the larger fish, so try to stay away from: shark, swordfish, king makerel, tile fish and tuna. Aside from these, most salt water fish are generally better to eat than fresh water fish - possibly due to any contaminates from factories, etc.
3. Do not serve uncooked meat! The possible harmful bacterias could harm the mom-to-be and baby. Stay away from Sushi.
4. Beware of deli meats. Since you probably don't go home and wash/cook your deli meats, any contamination from the factory/processing plant can be a risk to the mom-to-be and her unborn child.
5. Food allergies. Be sure to check with the mom-to-be to see if she has any food allergies. She may be more sensitive to them during pregnancy.
6. Food aversions. Some pregnant women have food aversions throughout the pregnancy. Ask her if there is any type of food that makes her feel queasy.
7. Alcohol. You shouldn't serve anything at the baby shower that the mom-to-be can't/shouldn't have. Alcohol is one of them.

Justbefore serving, prepare cherry tomatoes by removing the stem end, cutting a

Sprinkle inside of tomatoes very lightly with salt and invert on paper towels to drain
briefly. Stuff the tomatoes with the cheese mixture, garnish with small basil leaves and serve immediately.

http://www.preggiepeggy.com/appetizers.h... I always see finger sand., fruit and veggie trays, chips and dip, of course the cake!! Sunflower Cheese Balls

Ingredients: 1- 3oz pkg Philadelphia cream cheese 1/2 cup shredded cheese (brick, Monterey Jack, or American) 1 cup sunflower seeds 2 tbls toasted wheat germ
Directions: Let cream cheese stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Mix with shredded cheese. Stir in sunflower seeds. Mold into 1" balls. Roll cheese balls in wheat germ to coat. Pigs in a blanket are always a big hit at gatherings around my house. They're easy to make, or you can buy them premade and just cook them. (More expensive, but a lot less time!) Buy the mini hot dogs or sausages, a couple of packages of crescent rolls. Simply wrap the cresent roll around the dog (cut into multiple pieces if the rolls are big - I usually get 3 blankets out of each crescent...) Cook according to the directions on the crescent roll package - usually 10-15 minutes in your stove. Provide some ketchup, mustard, and relish in bowls that your guests can scoop out if they want. For my baby shower....
My girlfriend put together this concoction..
Cream cheese (lay the brick out on a plate) covered with orange marmalade (or any other topping you can think of) and serve with Wheat Thins..
It is scrumptious!!!! and EASY!!!
Hope that helps.
Easy punch recipes... ginger ale and sherbet. Make little smokies in your crockpot, just put in a couple of packages and add your very favorite BBQ sauce and heat through (Sweet Baby Ray's is an awesome sauce)
Deviled eggs are always a hit. Boil your eggs, cool and peel, cut in half length wise, put the yolk in your food processor, add in a bit of mayo, miracle whip, some mustard, some salt and pepper and blend away, taste to see if it's the way you want it or if you need to add a bit more mayo or mustard, fill the cut egg whites and arrange on a platter, sprinkle Paprika over them.
Make a layered taco dip by spreading a couple of blocks of cream cheese on a plate, add some re-fried beans as the next layer (I skip this because I hate beans), some taco meat, taco sauce, lettuce, onions (if you like) lots of lettuce, some cut up black olives (if you like ), dollops of sour cream and cover with shredded cheese, serve taco chips on the side to scoop it up with.
You can also do spread out cream cheese with some cocktail sauce over it and some drained very tiny shrimp and serve with a variety of crackers for scooping. If you have a place that makes good chicken salad and/or pimento cheese, buy it and you could make finger sandwiches. May use sandwich bread or small crescents. Google a recipe for artichoke dip. Stay away from tuna... it's not recommended for pregnant women.
