Sweet Potatoes? What time and temp do you cook them in the oven?!

Question:

Sweet Potatoes? What time and temp do you cook them in the oven?

Answers: I cook them at 350 degrees.
The time depends on what size they are.
Usually at least an hour.
Prick them with a fork and you'll know when they're soft and cooked through.
The large ones take quite a long time.Several hours. Bake 400 degree oven, one and a half to two hours, depending on size, until they are soft. 450 Degrees for about an hour. I usually wrap them in foil to hold in the juices. Wrapping them also keeps the skin moist. I eat the skin and all(the skin has fiber and vitamins). sonnyboy's info is good. I just have a tip.

When they're done cooking, they may spew small quantities of semi-liquid sweet potato out the holes where you poked the fork. These are so sugary that when they burn, they'll really smell bad, just like burning sugar on the bottom of the oven. One large potato can make a charred, stinky mess the size of a tennis ball!

I wrap mine in foil and make sure the seam is toward the ceiling. Problem solved. 350 - 400 for about 45 minutes 350 degrees...I bake mine on a cookie sheet or pie tin, since they ooze [see previous answerer's description!]. Oil the skins..this way you get a yummy extra treat and can eat a cooled baked sweet potato like a candy bar, skin and all. I have baked sweet poatatoes for about an 1hr (for jacket potatoe) in the oven at about 180 how are you serving them? As fries or as mashed? The thickness of the cut may determine how long they stay in.
