Can seasonings be fattening?!
Can seasonings be fattening?
I'm trying to eat healthier, slowly becoming a vegetarian. I try to use a lot of seasonings. Turmeric, cumin, thyme, curry, jamaican/island seasonings, italian etc. Not the really really expensive stuff, just your basic stuff from Kroger or Walmart (not the offbrand stuff though).
I was wondering if this is actually less healthy than I thought. I can't imagine it having a lot of fat or calories. Anybody know any info about it?
Thanks
Answers: The only way they would add fat to your diet is if it had it added to them. The calories are negligible. The one thing you want to pay attention to, though, is the sodium content. It's always better to use salt-free seasonings for cooking. Add salt, if needed, after you have tasted the dish at the table. Seasonings can be a great way to satisfy your palate without adding a lot of empty calories to your diet. if u use enuff of it it can be Seasonings are not fattening but you do have to watch the spicy ones on your stomach lining All seasoning are very fatty,it has alot of salt. I don't think it's the seasoning, I think it would be the sauces that you would put on your food. Even though they say, that the best is the freshest in seasoning. If you are using fresh or powdered seasonings they are alright, but watch the jarred and canned ones. dry seasoning is all plants.....plants don't have fat or cholesterol....watch the salt If you can find one seasoning with less salt and less fat it is wonderful provided if you can bring taste out of it despite so. Regarding spices they are good for lowering cholesterol and so they compensate the fat intake-only to a small extent. But also be mindful of burning of your tongue and digestive track. Anything in moderation is food that is healthy.and should be preferred. diverse food is cure for all diseases. Good for you...if you are wanting to eat healthier then you are doing great....I'd suggest to start a herb garden you can plant some herbs in one big planter and they are so much better than the dried especially during the summer when they grow so well.
But if you can't then use the ones from the store and don't keep them forever because they lose their punch after a while...so watch the expiration dates...
Fat usually comes in dairy and meats....not in vegetables or fruits..It's usually the animal products....so you are safe with teh herbs...
