What would you use instead of saffron in a recipe?


Answers:

I've made a few recipes that needed saffron and I either couldn't find it or didn't want to spend £3.00 on a couple of strands. Unless it is for something where the saffron is the main event I wouldn't bother substituting it with anything as it's so unique and if it is to go with stronger flavours you can probably get away without it. If it's for colour - the only thing I can think of would be a very small amount (like 1/4 teaspoon) of turmeric but I guess that depends on the recipe too.
