When cooking with wine (or other alcohol), does all of the alcohol really cook out?!

Question:

When cooking with wine (or other alcohol), does all of the alcohol really cook out?

Is it ok to give foods cooked with wine (or other alcohol) to children? I've heard that some of the alcohol is still left in the food and therefore should not be given to children. But others have told me that it's ok.

Thanks.

Answers:

Not all will cook out, but usually the amount left is insignificant. The amount that cooks out is dependent on how long you cook it and the alcohol content you started with. I wouldn't worry about things like a stew or meat dish cooked with wine for example, but a flaming desert made with brandy might not be for the kids.
