Well, usually when you're using such a sauce of the tomato variety, it's common to use "Italian" style herbs- being known for their frequent use in pasta dishes originating in Italy. I would most definitely add freshly minced basil. Basil is probably the most common to use. Or you can heat the sauce with a bay leaf. Remember, DO NOT eat the leaf, remove it before serving. Freshly ground black pepper is also really good.
Also, let me point your attention to other yummy additions to such a sauce. Though they aren't considered to be a spice, necessarily, they add great flavor! First and foremost, garlic and onion. Use a clove of fresh garlic and heat it up with the sauce, or, add in garlic salt or powder. A common meal I throw together when I don't feel like really cooking is frozen chicken Parmesan (you know, the family style microwave dinner), and some buttery pasta with pepper and garlic salt. This make a great sauce, and it's so easy and inexpensive. The onions can be diced and added to the sauce as you heat it. Also, depending on your tastes, some mushrooms (from a can or jar)- just mince them up, and add them in the sauce while heating. Black olives, bits of carrots, zucchini, and other veggies can be added as well, not only for flavor and texture, but to get in your daily amount of veggies!
Last, but not least, consider topping your sauce in whatever dish with some grated cheese- again, Italian styles are good (and pretty common), such as Parmesan or Romano, but Cheddar and even pepper jack are also good options.
Have fun!
