What does it mean to knead dough?
I'm going to make cinnamon rolls later, and it says that I need to knead the dough 20 times..... so my ? is what does knead mean? And if I can't do that, then can I just roll it, pat it, etc.

Good for you when they are ready...give me a CALL! YUM YUM....kneading is moving the dough around to change the structure of the dough....so it's ready to rise and then baked....
when you are working with the dough...you gently form it into a ball and then with both "heels of your hands" the part next to the wrist....the part you use to push on the edge of a table....that part....you push the dough forward and then bring it back and repeat a few times turning it around and this helps the flour absorb the other ingredients and helps the yeast do it's thing.....the dough should start to look like soft satin ...not rough...don't be afraid to use some pressure....as you knead it....do it 20 times like it says....pushing in and down with your hands...the best way to learn is like what you are doing....you can also search the internet for .".photos of kneading dough" in yahoo search or other engines...
