I am baking an 16 inch giant cake, do i remove from the pan when it has cooled or when i take it out of?

the oven when it is hot? or warm?? I greased and floured the pan...if that makes any difference.


Answers:

Wait about 10 minutes after you take the cake out of the oven and run a butter knife around the edges to loosen them. Let the cake cool completely, and turn out onto the cake plate or cardboard round you plan to use. To keep the cake from slipping around on the platter or round, spread a very thin layer of your frosting on the platter or round before turning the cake out onto it.

I usually put the frosting on the cardboard round and then lay the round on top of the cake, then I hold the pan and the board as I flip the whole thing over.

Be sure to trim your cake layer before you take it out of the pan. Use a sharp knife and cut all of the cake off that is above the edge of your pan. When you turn your cake over on the board, it will sit level if you do this.
