Cleaning:

Vinegar is a useful substance for cleaning a variety of things, without doing much environmental damage. And it's much cheaper than cleaning products.

It can be used like diluted bleach, as a lightening agent, and it wipes away grease as well as ammonia.

Bleach and ammonia are also very bad for your lungs.

To clean a bathroom, and to completely kill all mold, mildew and odors, pour rubbing alcohol into a spray bottle and keep it next to a roll of paper towels. Use it to clean all bathroom surfaces, including the inside and outside of the toilet.

Food:

To save money on produce, I buy frozen vegetables. They are almost as healthy as fresh ones. Good fruit, such as berries, can be purchased frozen, with no added sugar.

To take off a few extra pounds, and save money, I switch from eating poultry to eating beans. I make re-fried beans without the lard that is traditionally used, and substitute heart-healthy olive oil. With chopped onion, garlic, cumin and chili powder, it tastes very good.

To make a quick soup, I use canned tomatoes, canned black or white beans, seasonings and vegetables. It's tasty if boiled, then simmered for half an hour. It's better the next
day .
