Hamburger Patties for grilling?!

Question:

Hamburger Patties for grilling?

What do you add to hambuger meat to make good patties for cooking on a charcoal grill?

Answers:

Hey Dave,

My wife used to fight me on this, but STAY AWAY from the "lean" hamburger. No fat means no flavor. In addition, the lack of fat makes it even harder to make good patties that will hold together.

I use two things on my hamburgers.. 1) I sprinkle my "special" barbecue rub on them, and 2) I give 'em a shake or two of garlic powder (NOT salt) before I put 'em on.

Final note; Make the patties big to start with. If you start "pushing" on the burgers once they it the grill, they go to hell in a handbasket. (Not to mention the fact you're squeezing out all the juices.)
