Developing cooking skills?!

Question:

Developing cooking skills?

I'm 14 and really love cooking, I try out recipes at home for my family and they aren't disasters but I am not great at them either. I would really like to find a way of getting better at cooking and simple learn some more skills in it. I don't seem to be able to find any cooking classes in my area, is there perhaps a good dvd that I should get or does anyone else have any ideas on it?

Answers:

Sounds like you're on the right track by cooking for your family. Your skills will develop over time with more experience.

I recommend watching PBS during the weekends for their cooking shows. You'll figure out which ones are good.

If you have a local library, see if you can checkout any DVD's with either Julia Childs, Jacque Pepin or Martin Yan.

As a last resort, if you have cable, check out The Food Network. Alton Brown, Mario Batali, Giada Delaurentis and Emeril are good. Rachael Ray and Paul Deen okay.
