How to make small batch of dill pickles?!

Question:

How to make small batch of dill pickles?

Most recipes call for 'pickling cucumbers', which I think are cucumbers that are about 3 inches long. However, I have 3 medium sized cucumbers, and 1 large.

All I want to do is make a jar's worth of dill pickles (the jar holds almost 4 cups of water).

Also, most of the recipes I've found call for "pickling salt"... is that neccessary?

Any recipes? Thanks in advance.

Answers:

I was just reading that regular cucumbers just dont work well for pickling. Besides that, they probably would not fit into the jar on account that even with pickling cukes, they need to be brined whole and sliced after pickling.
