Question about cheddar cheese and conversions?

Hi I was hoping someone would be able to help me figure this one out I am making sausage balls and the recipe I have calls for an 8oz bag of shredded cheese and I prefer the taste of freshly grated cheese to the bag kind so I was wondering if the 8oz bag (2cups) of shredded cheese you but would be the same as an 8 oz block of cheese grated? Seems like I had heard something about it years ago but I cant remember so if anyone knows I would greatly appreciate your time and assistance
thank you

Answers:

yes...if the recipe calls for 2 cups of cheese...whether it be from a bag or freshly grated/shredded it is still 2 cups.....and 8 oz. is 8 oz.(professionals use weight instead of volume due to it's accuracy) so use as much or as little as you want to..it's is a dip...and can be determined by the taste...
