Fried Pie Fiasco?!

Question:

Fried Pie Fiasco?

I attempted to make fried pies...but they kept coming open and ended up looking a bit like tacos. Needless to say, they didn't turn out well. Is there a way to keep them from opening? I used a fork to "crimp" the edges. I want fried pies, not greasy fruit tacos!

Answers:

Use a beaten egg with a tablespoon of water, mixed to seal the edges of your pies prior to crimping......the egg mixture will act as a "glue" to seal the pastry properly during the frying process.....you can also buy a "pie crimping tool" to give you very professional looking results for your pies.....also, make sure that your pastry is sturdy enough to hold up to the rigors of deep fat frying......Let us know how this works, and Enjoy!!!
