Roast potato recipe question?!

Question:

Roast potato recipe question?

I saw this program where the chef put the potatoes on a wooden spoon and sliced them almost all the way through. She then placed some garlic butter on each one and covered them in foil. She roasted them. Should I boil the potatoes first? How long do you cook them for? What else can I add to better the flavour?

Answers:

They are actually called hasselback potatoes, we sometimes add some white onion soup mix (the powder) to the garlic butter mix then roast for approximately 40 to 60 mins, the take off the foil and prod the tatties to see if they are done, ie soft, then I will leave them for another 10 of 15 mins to brown, or pop them under the grill, but be careful not to burn the garlic as it can go quite bitter........
