What does self raiseing four have in it to make it rise?

like the ingredient?????
hurry i really do need to know this it is like a life or death situation here ppl.. so hurry ppl if your could thanks heaps.


Answers:

If you are out and do not have time to run to the store, just add 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to 1 cup of flour. Make sure and mix this well so that you do not have little clots of baking powder. This works - I've used it before.
But... Make sure that your baking powder is fresh, otherwise it will not rise. To check this, put 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder into 1/4 cup hot water. If the solution bubbles a lot, you are good.
