Please may we consult about Usli Ghee and Desi Ghee?!

Question:

Please may we consult about Usli Ghee and Desi Ghee?

Namaste ~
Is Usli Ghee just plain ghee, but with a very proper name, or is it something different?

And, suddenly I am seeing mention of Desi Ghee. What ever is that? Maybe Ghee with a foreign accent?

One more thing: is there another kind of ghee we should mention?

with thanks in advance

Answers:

'Usli' means 'real' or 'pure', in the sense of 'as it should be', 'as of old'.. 'Desi', in the same context, means 'native', 'local', 'home-made', 'indigenous'. As regards the ghee itself, they both come down to the same thing, of course. For that reason you wll see some Indian manufacturers classifying their product as 'pure desi ghee', claiming 'desi', i.e. 'home made' as a marketing ploy in just the same way as manufacturers anywhere else in the world. :-)
