What happens if you undercook a lobster?!
What happens if you undercook a lobster?
I have always had lobster prepared for me in restaurants. I cooked it only once in my life and it came out overcooked and rubbery. I followed the intructions but it wasn't too good.
How can you tell if a lobster is undercooked? Is there a way you can poke it with a fork, or will it be too fishy tasting or what? I want to make the attempt again but do not want to mess it up this time!
Any suggestions?
Answers:
Lobster Continues to Cook After Boiling
The lobster’s hard shell acts almost like a small oven when it is cooked. The lobster will continue to cook itself until it is cooled. After a lobster is removed from the boiling water or steam, it is best to either eat it right away or let it cool down.
Don’t under cook
It is better to overcook a lobster than to undercook it. When a lobster is undercooked the meat is soft, runny and not very appetizing. Lobster should be cooked for 12 minutes for the first pound and then 1 minute for every quarter pound over that. So for example, a two pound lobster should cook for 15 minutes.
