Question:

Any ideas for a meal I could make from scratch that is easy to do?

I'm not an experienced cook. Does anyone know a recipe for ANYTHING that is easy to make from scratch, but doesn't require too much know how for cooking? I don't mean like toast or a sandwich, but like a real meal/dish.

Answers:

Spaghetti Carbonara.

This tastes fantastic, and is not too hard to make. You'll need:

Bacon rashers - around 4 to 5 per person
Field mushrooms - around 2 to 3 per person
Cream (250mls)
Parmesan cheese (a block from your supermarket)
2 x egg yolks
2 - 3 cloves garlic
pepper
dried pasta - dry is best, so it doesn't soak up all the juice.

To make: (its all about the preparation, the cooking is easy)

cut the bacon rashers up in to small pieces - say around 2cm in length.
Slice the mushrooms finely.
Dice the garlic finely.

In a pan, fry the bacon rashers until done to your liking.
Add the mushrooms and garlic (you will need to lower the heat slighlty for this).

When mushrooms just cooked, add cream - should be around half the bottle. Make sure the heat is quite low, or the cream will bubble up too quickly and evaporate. Add pepper to taste, and I can't stress this enough, make sure the heat is quite low. You want to reduce the cream to make it thick, and it will go a grey/brownish colour - of the mushrooms.

While this is cooking, put two egg yolks in a bowl (or other implement that you can whisk!) and add parmesan cheese - about a fistful or so! and combine with egg yolks.

Heat pan and boil pasta.

Warm a serving bowl in the oven, and add pasta (once cooked!). Toss the egg/parmesan mixture through - make sure you do this thoroughly, or the egg mixture will clump together. now add the bacon/mushroom/garlic mixture.

DELICIOUS. Serve with simple mesculin or roquette salad with balsamic dressing.

Good luck.
