Anyone know how to microwave a frozen hamburger patty and make it come out good?!

Question:

Anyone know how to microwave a frozen hamburger patty and make it come out good?

Answers:

If your only option is a microwave, then try a browning agent. A bit of soy sauce and oil or butter rubbed on to the patty (after it has thawed a bit) will help make it taste as if it were cooked on a pan. Soy sauce and brown sugar will actually crispen it on the outside.

Alternatively, you can buy "frying" pans for the microwave. These have a hot surface to put the patty on. The surface, when microwaved, gets hot (and doesn't explode or anything) but is insulated from the base so it doesn't harm the microwave.

Without one of these two you're looking at a hamburger patty that will taste like it's been boiled or steamed - because that's what a microwave oven does. It makes water (and fat) molecules in food vibrate and become hot but not hot enough to burn, roast or fry without the help I described above. Soy sauce and sugar will actually caramelize a bit and simulate pan frying.
