Cooking Sherry - what kind & where do I find this??!

Question:

Cooking Sherry - what kind & where do I find this??

I have never purchased cooking sherry and would love to try storing fresh ginger in it.

Anybody do this? Anyone have advice on what kind of sherry is good?

Thank you :)

Answers:

There are different kinds of sherries. some are sweeter than others. Do NOT buy cooking sherry. It is loaded with salt!
as a rule, don't cook with any wine that you wouldn't drink.
Manzanilla sherries are drier
Amontillados are sweeter and a little "nutty" I generally prefer these for cooking.
Cream sherries are very sweet, usually used as an after dinner drink or an appertif.
Buy a small bottle of each & try them out. keep cooking !
