I need very coarse Salt for my grinder.?!
I need very coarse Salt for my grinder.?
I just bought a set of itouchless Salt & Pepper Mills. I added the peppercorns no problem, but the coarse sea salt that I have for the salt grinder is too small to use.
Can anyone recommend a salt that is about the size of a peppercorn?
The way these grinders are set up is so stupid, once you take the bottom off to fill it, the salt gets into the gear shaft that turns the grinder mechanism which makes it impossible to put salt in and reassemble the grinder. So I'm hoping that a very large coarse salt would work (since I have no problems with the peppercorns getting stuck) I just don't know where I should order from.
Thank you :-)

I am a former chef and have a slat grinder like my pepper one, if you were here in Toronto Canada, I could send you to 6 places I get mine at one time or another. But depending on were you live, I would try a health food store or a gourmet food shop.
I to use a coarse sea salt, kosher salt is to fine, if you have one of those store were you can fill up a bag with nuts, flour and baking ingredients, they will have it, otherwise you may have to find an on-line place.
I have used the various finishing salts from all over the world, and they are usually coarse, also search around your town, you may find one of the supermarkets have something, it is a different taste for sea salt, not as concentrated as table salt, more sometime to use at the end, and if you want just use some that you store in a jar for cooking pasta, for baking, you will have to grind it and measure it that way.
