Use for dried out bread?!

Question:

Use for dried out bread?

I have over half a loaf of bread (sliced store-bought...not from a bakery, just regular bread) and it's starting to dry out. What can I do with it? It's too dry to use to make sandwiches. I was going to make cinnamon french toast, but do you have any other ideas?

Answers:

********BREAKFAST BAKE WITH LEFTOVER BREAD
Ideal for holiday breakfast.
10 slices buttered bread, cubed (crust removed)
3 c. milk
1 doz. eggs
1 tsp. dry mustard
6 green onions with 3" of tops left on (thinly sliced)
4 oz. can mushrooms, diced
1 1/2 lbs. sausage, fried & drained
8 oz. Cheddar cheese, grated
1/2 tsp. Cheyenne pepper
Mix all ingredients together except sausage and cheese and store in refrigerator overnight. (Store cooked sausage separately.) In the morning put sausage and cheese into egg mixture and put all into a 9x13 inch greased baking dish. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serves 12.
(For lower cholesterol version, use Egg Beaters and low fat Cheddar cheese.)

***********HAM AND CHEESE STRATA
12 slices white bread
2 c. (1/2 lb.) shredded cheddar cheese
6 thin slices boiled ham or left over ham
4 eggs, well beaten
2 1/2 c. milk
3/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. prepared mustard
2 tsp. instant minced onion
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Arrange half of the bread slices in bottom of greased, shallow baking dish, cutting slices to fit (crusts removed). Sprinkle cheese over bread and top with ham. Place remaining bread slices on top of ham. Combine eggs, milk, salt and pepper, mustard, onion and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Pour mixture over bread slices. Cover with aluminum foil. Chill several hours or overnight. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Bake one hour or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serves 6. Bake in a 2 quart baking dish.
