Hamburger tonight-how can I make an easy italian meatball sandwhich using fresh ingredients?!

Question:

Hamburger tonight-how can I make an easy italian meatball sandwhich using fresh ingredients?

Please-do not tell me to get Prego or Ragu or any other type of sauce. This is hard to find in Germany, and I need to make the sauce on my own.
Danke!

Answers:

Traditional meatball subs are mest made with a thick puree of a sauce- not a fresher chunky one_ if you really can not find a basic jarred or canned spagetti sauce in an italian market- not the american jarred kind, but a real italian one, then you really either need to make your own- or forgo the traditional sauce and use an alternative:

To forgo the sauce_ Try sauteing minced garlic, sliced onions, green peppers, and mushrooms until soft and adding diced tomatoes- use this to top the meatballs in a roll and top with shredded mozz. cheese

To make a sauce:
1/2 cup salad oil
4 onions, chopped fine
4 garlic cloves, minced
16 lbs. tomatoes, peeled and diced
1/4 cup sugar
2 Tbls. parsley flakes or 1/4 cup chopped parsley
2 Tbls. oregano leaves
2 Tbls. salt
2 tsp. basil leaves
3/4 tsp. pepper
2 bay leaves
2 12oz. cans tomato paste
Mix all together in a large pot except the tomato paste.

Slowly bring the ingredients to a boil. Be careful not to burn the bottom, stir often.

Simmer for 3-4 hours, boiling the entire time to reduce the amount of liquid.

The last half hour, add the tomato paste and keep simmering.
Store is plastic containers in the refrigerator or freeze.
