Answers:

Savory is a member of the mint family and is native to eastern Mediterranean and northern Europe.

TASTE: Summer savory has a slightly peppery and resinous taste with hints of thyme, mint and marjoram. Winter savory has a more powerful aroma, with hints of sage and pine.

CULINARY TIPS: Great with beef and lamb stew, corn, grilled vegetables, potato dishes and stuffing’s. (especially good with bean dishes). Savory is often used as an ingredient in recipes asking for country sausage. Savory is also an excellent salt substitute.
Try placing a few sprigs of savory in vinegar for several weeks or more and put in a dark place. Remove the herbs and add to your favorite salad dressing.

MEDICINAL USES: Herbalists have suggested summer savory for its mildly astringent and antiseptic qualities. Savory can be used in a steam bath to relieve symptoms of bronchitis, and asthma. Savory can be found in teas to treat stomach upset and in ointments for minor skin irritations.

Trying rubbing a sprig of savory on a wasp or bee sting to provide instant relief.
