Food Saver Vaccum System?!
Food Saver Vaccum System?
Hi everyone, this Saturday my husband finally allowed me to get the food saver system. We have been talking about it for awhile. I was wondering if anyone has this and what do you think about it?
Thanks in advance!

I like the idea of cleaning and reusing the bags. I wanted to get some feed-back b4 using it.

I've had mine several years and love it. Just a few tips/ideas/suggestions:
1. I love the cannister type containers. We used to throw away so many stale crackers, cookies, etc. I also use them to store rice, cornmeal and other grains.
2. Look at Tuesday Morning for the cannisters. Great deal if you can find them.
3. We buy steaks, etc. from Costco or Sams and immediately freeze part of it. 6 months later you would never know it wasn't fresh from the store.
4. Don't vacuum marshmallows - even lightly
5. Make your bag a little bigger than needed if you think you will reuse it. I reuse all except those used for meats.
6. Some frozen foods can be cooked in the bag in a pan of boiling water. No cleanup.
7. Some chip and cereal bags can be sealed.
8. Keep it handy. You won't use it if you have to dig it out of the bottom cabinet.
9. Like a couple of others have said, once in a while something is very difficult to vacuum and seal. I check for a good seal at the bottom and sides and that sometimes helps. This definitely wouldn't stop me from buying one as it rarely happens to me.
