Question:

Shoo fly pie-why is it called that?

Have you ever had shoo fly pie?Why is it called that? Do flies like it?

Answers:

I grew with Shoo Fly Pie, my grandmother was Mennonite. It’s essentially an Amish or Mennonite dessert and is made with molasses as the filling. Because it’s so sweet it was thought to attract flies which then have to be “shooed” away, and that’s supposedly how it got its name.
