What is the difference between baking soda and baking powder?!

What is the difference between baking soda and baking powder?

my recipe calls for baking powder, will it taste different if i use baking soda? its only a 1/2 tsp.

what if i add cream of tartar? how much?


Answers:

For 1 teaspoon of baking powder, substitute 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda + 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar. So for your recipe, add 1/8 teaspoon baking soda + 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar.
