If a recipe calls for a "crock pot" or "slow cooker", can I just use a large pot on the stove?!

Question:

Answers:

I agree...in the oven definitely!

A dutch oven or similar very heavy and tightly covered pot will work well. the heavier the better as you want a sort of radiant heat inside. The seal on the lid is pretty important, as the always-moist crockpot style cooking is party achieved through the retention of delicate steam, and a continual basting of flavorful juices dripping down from the lid.

If you're worried that the pot you'll use in the oven doesn't have a great seal, use some foil and crimp it down and then put the lid on!

I'd say 200 degrees in the oven.

Good luck
