Question:

I'm making marinara sauce and I was wondering if I can substitute cooking sherry for wine.?

The recipe calls for red or white wine. I've never cooked with sherry before. Do you think it would taste the same?

I do have some white wine in the fridge. Should I just use it anyway? I just didn't want to "cook" with it as it is not a cheap wine. Does anyone know for sure about using the cooking sherry?

Answers:

please dont use the sherry.
I make a marinara without wine and its pretty good .
save the white for drinking
3 large cans whole Italian plum tomatoes
3 tablespoons olive oil; more if needed
5 large cloves garlic, thinly sliced,
1 medium-large onion, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon red chile flakes
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1/4 cup lightly packed fresh basil leaves, torn into small pieces
3 anchovy fillets
Pinch granulated sugar, only if needed
of course this is a large batch so cut it or if you want freeze part of it .
good luck><>
