What is the best type of onion to use for salsa?!

Question:

What is the best type of onion to use for salsa?

I can't believe I can't find this online. :(

Answers:

White onion = most traditional. It's got a sharper taste.

Some folks like to rinse it after chopping it to make it milder.

Yellow onions are a bit sweeter. Sweet onions like Vidalia, Walla Walla or red can also be used.

It's all a matter of taste.

If you use scallions, only use the white part. If you use the green part, consume the salsa right away. The green part tends to wilt & get slimey.
